About “Denise in Maracaibo”
About Denise’s blog with an unoriginal title…
Welcome/Bienvenidos to a written account, occasionally photographic, of my experience living, traveling, teaching and researching in Venezuela. As a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant, I work in the city of Maracaibo in the state of Zulia with the faculty and coordinators of the binational center we call CEVAZ, the Centro Venezolano Americano del Zulia. The rest of the time, I am a research intern at the local UNHCR office, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. I want to look at how Colombian refugees get by in the urban environment of Maracaibo and how they are/not integrated.
This blog includes entries and pictures—not as many as I’d like due to my occasional lack of discipline with writing and the painfully slow photo uploading process—of my work and travel here in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. I arrived in October and so after a Christmas hiatus in Europe/the U.S. and a Fulbright conference in Mexico City in January, I am back to writing. I have resolved to post once a week in 2009, and more often if I can manage it. I hope you enjoy it and please feel free to send me comments. “Blogging” is relatively new for me so I’m learning as I go. I hope you enjoy it and find something interesting. Thanks to fellow Fulbright ETA Jeremy for inspiring this page.
